Is an investment certificate different from a savings account?

There are three major differences between investment certificates and regular savings accounts:

  • Rates. Investment certificates tend to have far higher rates than other savings accounts, greatly increasing your earnings.
  • Terms. Certificates offer term options from a few months to a few years, and you can choose to cash out or renew at the end of the term.
  • Accessibility. In exchange for high rates, you have limited access to your money until the certificate matures (term ends).

If you think an investment certificate is right for you, apply today to get our limited-time rate.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is an investment certificate?

An investment certificate, or certificate of deposit (CD), is a type of savings account that has a specific maturity date and fixed rate. Longer terms have higher interest rates, and shorter terms have lower interest rates. Investment certificates tend to offer higher yields than other savings accounts; however, access to your funds is restricted for the length of the term.

  • What if I need to withdraw my funds before my certificate's maturity date?

For certificates with terms less than a year, the early withdrawal penalty is 90 days of accrued dividends. For terms equal to or greater than one year, the early withdrawal penalty is 180 days of dividends.
